What is the RAF100 Appeal?

The RAF100 Appeal is a joint venture between the Royal Air Force and four major RAF charities – the Royal Air Forces Association, Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust and the Royal Air Force Museum. The aim of the Appeal is to raise money for the RAF Family and to create a lasting legacy as we celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force in 2018.

How do I enter?

All entries are online, no entries will be taken on race day.  You cannot enter over the phone or through the post. Payment is by debit or credit card only.  

Transfers will not be possible after Sunday 12th August 2018, due to the security process mandated at RAF Shawbury.  

When does entry close?

Entries will automatically close on Sunday 26th August 2018 @ 11:59pm or sooner if sold out.

Am I able to have a refund or defer if I am unable to run?

No, we cannot offer refunds or defer entry once you have entered the race. Transfers are possible up until Sunday 12th August 2018.

What is the minimum age to enter the race?

You must be at least 18 years old on race day to run the 10k race.

No minimum age for the Fun Run (Maximum age 16 years old).

What do I need to bring on race day?

Please bring photo ID (passport or photo driving license).

For Service personnel, MOD civilians, Contractors & Dependants, please bring the relevant ID card.

Why are there two entry prices?

For Service personnel, MOD civilians, Contractors, Dependants and UKA Affiliated runners we are offering a reduced entry fee of £13. (Please bring the relevant ID to race registration on race day) 

To qualify for UKA Affiliated entry, your running club must be recognised via the UKA Governing Body.

For all other 10k runners an entry fee of £15 is being charged.  

What will I get for my entry fee?

Entry into a fairly unique race, allowing you the opportunity to race on an active airfield (closed on race day). 

Fully marked out and marshalled course with water station. 

Bespoke medal.

Goody bag.

Custom made one of a kind trophies for top 3 male and female runners.

Trophies for all category winners. 

Prizes for winners.

When will I receive the T-shirt that I ordered with my race entry?

On race day, after the main 10k race has finished, runners can collect their T-shirts along with their goody bags.

When do I receive my race number?

On race day - Race packs, which include your race number/luggage tag/timing chip and security passes must be collected on the day at race registration point.

Will there be chip timing?

Yes - You must not damage these otherwise you will not get a time. We also will be collecting these at the end of the race.

Race route

Race route – Fast, flat fully tarmac route. Great opportunity to set a PB. 

 

Can I bring spectators?

Yes – Up to 4 spectators per runner. Please select the number of spectators you are bringing on the booking application.

All spectators are required to bring photo ID (passport or photo driving license).

Is there a Fun Run? 

Yes – We will be holding a separate Fun Run, that will run after the main race (distance approximately 2k)

Please select the number of Fun Run entries you require on the booking application (No commitment, just to help us with numbers of Fun Run entries).

Fun Run registration required on race day £3 cash only entry fee.

3 age categories: 6 years and under, 7-11 years, 12 -16 years. Plus overall top 3 male & female.

Due to security constraints, the Fun Run is only open to family members of competitors or personnel with a permanent RAF Shawbury pass.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately no, only registered Guide Dogs are allowed to enter the site on race day.

Can I use a Buggy or Push-pram?

Yes – But you will be required to lineup at the rear of the race. Only one medal will be available.

Can I run with in earphones/listen to music during the race?

Yes – As the race is on a closed airfield, though we would recommend you don’t as all runners should remain aware of their surroundings at all times.

Will there be a water station?

Yes – At approximately the 4km mark.

Will there be any refreshments?

Yes – Refreshment stalls will be available to purchase food and drink.

Will there be activities to entertain my family?

Yes - We are hoping to have a number of stalls and activities available including a climbing wall.

Will there be an air display?

Yes - We are hoping (Weather & Aircraft dependant) to have a small flypast. But this is subject to availability. 

A static aircraft display should also be available, with aircraft from RAF Shawbury on display.

Will I be able to buy event merchandise at the event?

Yes - RAF100 merchandise will be available on the day but no race T-shirts will be available.

Will there be anywhere to store my bag?

Yes – We will have bag storage areas (tents) setup where runners can leave belongings. (All items will be left at owners own risk).

Are there showers and changing facilities?

There are no showers but there are changing facilities.

What time does the race site open?

The race site will open at 8am. 

 

What time is the 10k race?

The race will start at 10am. 

With the Fun run starting at 12pm. 

 

How do I get to RAF Shawbury?

Address – RAF Shawbury, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY4 4DZ. 

Both pedestrian and vehicles are to enter the race site via one of the crash gates. (Please follow event directions on race day)

You will not be able to get to the race site via the Station main entrance. 

 

Where can I park on race day?

At RAF Shawbury, on the airfield.
